Our sustainability goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals that together represent a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. We focus on six of the goals that are closely linked to our core operations and business strategy.

Goal 3: Good health and well-being

3.9: Our products offer a safe solution for clean cooking worldwide. LPG is a cleaner cooking fuel compared to wood, charcoal, kerosene and animal dung, which are widely used in many developing countries. LPG also leaves no soot particles. Our composite products do not corrode, which reduces the risk of gas leaks and accidents. Our product technology ensures near-zero gas permeation.

Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy

7.1: LPG is a transition fuel and has a significantly lower carbon footprint than other traditional cooking fuels, such as wood or charcoal. Our composite products do not corrode, which reduces the risk of gas leaks and accidents and they have a long lifetime (> 2 decades). Our cylinders are more sustainable in transportation and more ergonomically-friendly during handling than most steel cylinders. As our cylinders are translucent, users can see any remaining content.
7.2: Our cylinders are fully compatible with Bio-LPG, also called renewable LPG.

Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth

8.2: Our production is fully automated with focus on lean manufacturing.
8.4: Our product is already lightweight and we invest in R&D to further reduce the resources used in production. By internally recycling our own liner waste, we are increasing our resource efficiency. (Our product's proven lifetime is 23+ years)
8.6: Both apprentices and trainees have a contract of employment.

Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

9.4: Our products are in use in approximately 100 countries in the world, and many of these are developing countries. Our lightweight products facilitate delivery to remote or hard-to-reach areas.
9.5: We invest substantial amounts in R&D projects and innovation for sustainability, using both internal resources and working with research institutions and universities. Reduction of material use and recycling of product waste flows are just two areas of research.

Goal 12: Responsable consumption and production

12.2: Through substantial R&D efforts we continuously work to improve our product and production in order to reduce waste generation, and find ways to reuse or recycle our product. Our lightweight products are inherently resource efficient and their high quality guarantees a long lifetime (over 23 years).
12.4: Through ISO 14001 certification and our closed production facility, all chemicals and emissions are carefully handled according to requirements. Our zero-emissions strategy has proven successful.
12.5: We have recycled plastic waste from liners in-house from the start of the business. In-house recycling is now being scaled up to include casing parts. Our design of casing spare parts ensures the continued use of the pressure vessel despite damage to the casing.
12.6: We report our efforts in our sustainability report transparently and according to the GRI standard. We ask our suppliers to provide specific carbon footprint reports to push them towards adopting a sustainable mindset.

Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals

17.16: Through our sales and through participation in the Innovation Norway programs "UN Global Growth" and "Global Gateways by IN", we strive to build global innovative partnerships to undertake important missions for developing countries. Through our partnerships in Cooking4Life, World LPG Association, Liquid Gas Europe and UN Global Compact, we actively seek cross-functional partnerships for more effective aid linked to our products.
17.17: We team up with the local networks of our customers worldwide (both public and private) to enhance processes and secure funding to get cleaner and safer LPG to people. An example is from Bangladesh, where our customer has received local private funding to supply our gas cylinders to camps for displaced Rohingya refugees, is a case in point.
